First Installment of Friedman Friday
A couple of years ago, I ran across the Free To Choose series that featured Milton Friedman, the famed Nobel-prize winning economist that espoused the free market and capitalism. Friedman was a real economist back in the day when winning the Nobel prize in economics really meant something (unlike the economist-turned-political hack Paul Krugman). With all of the economic quackery that is being practiced today, his voice is sorely missed.
It is with that idea in mind that I will be posting each of the Free To Choose episodes (all 10) each Friday. Each episode features an introductory portion where Dr. Friedman discusses a certain concept and then a roundtable discussion with supporters and defenders of his ideas. The videos can be found on YouTube and on the FreeToChoose.tv website. The Free To Choose series first debuted in 1980 on PBS (of all places) and became classics in conservative and libertarian intellectual circles. After watching an episode, you will know why.
“A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither. A society that puts freedom before equality will get a high degree of both.”
― Milton Friedman
