What if there was a disaster but nobody cared?

This is the question that the Obama administration is asking itself right now. The partial shut down of the federal government has been touted as a calamity that has befallen the American people, forced on us by those dastardly Republicans in the House of Representatives. The narrative coming from the administration is that the lack of funding for only 17% of the federal government is an event so horrible as to inspire nightmares in young children and to cause the wailing and gnashing of teeth in the land. But, in reality, not so much. But since the doom of civilization hasn’t materialized the way Obama and his team had hoped, the effort is being put into actively trying to generate pain and discomfort for the American people so that they can really get it through their thick skulls why government is so important.

As usual, Bill Whittle does a superb job of explaining what is really going on. Check out his latest Afterburner video below.

More Krazy Krugman

krugman-the-clown-with-his-kazoo

On July 4th, the towering intellect of the progressive left Paul Krugman, decided to write an opinion piece entitled E Pluribus Unum in that bastion of liberalism, the New York Times. It was an opportunity for Mr. Krugman to

“…wax a bit philosophical, to wonder what, exactly, we’re celebrating.”

But of course instead of reflecting upon the spirit of liberty and individualism upon which this country was founded, Mr. Krugman proceeds to spout typical liberal screeds that are becoming like broken records.

Economist John Goodman encapsulated the main points of Krugman’s piece in an article entitled A Liberal View of July 4th. Goodman expounds on the highlights of Krugman’s article.

Imagine a tribute to America that:

…Says the founding fathers were hypocrites because many of them owned slaves.

…Pretends that the phrase “all men are created equal” means equality of material condition (or at least equality of opportunity) rather than its actual meaning: equality before the law.

…Applauds our nation for declaring that “all men have rights,” but manages to mention only one of them (the right to vote), even though that one was not in the Declaration of Independence or in the original Constitution.

…Implies that anyone who believes that voters should produce the same identification we all have to produce to fly on an airplane or enter a government building is secretly intent on voter suppression.

…Spends four full paragraphs taking a swipe at Sarah Palin’s view of “real America” by pointing out that most Americans live in cities, and large cities at that, rather than in places like Mayberry.

…Spends another two paragraphs announcing that although the original colonists were mainly WASPS, “we’re no longer an Anglo-Saxon nation; we’re only around half-Protestant; and we’re increasingly nonwhite.”

…Says the most significant feature of our system is that we have survived as a “democracy,” even though the founders called it a “republic.”

Goodman then goes on to eviscerate Krugman’s comments. It’s a thing of beauty. Take a quick read.

Friedman Friday – Part 4

The latest post in the Milton Friedman classic Free To Choose. This is part #4 – From Cradle to Grave. Below are the previous episodes if you missed the postings.

Krugman is a joke

RealClearMarkets.com  – With the Environment, Krugman Forgets the Poor

“…my daughter just finished her first year of college. Having taken two introductory economics classes, when presented with Krugman’s column this morning, she immediately noticed the error and shouted “broken window fallacy.” Given that Krugman wrote an introductory economics textbook, I was surprised he would make such an error.”

Krugman

My guess is that Krugman didn’t forget the poor, he just chose to ignore them in favor of advancing a costly, ineffective and false narrative. It seems that Krugman has decided to ignore the realities of economics and to twist and contort himself in an effort to support his progressive allies. For him, it’s easy to disregard Economics 101 because, well, because he wants to.

You know, it used to be a pretty big deal when someone won a Nobel prize. It meant that you were among the best in the world for what you do. But the Nobel prize has become nothing more than a popularity contest with the winner being the one that can demonstrate how progressive they are. I mean, when you have peace prize winners like Yasar Arafat and Obama (after being in office for only a couple of months and doing literally nothing to earn it), the award becomes totally devoid of value. Throw in the likes of Al Gore and Paul Krugman in the list of winners and it becomes laughable.

For an epic takedown of Mr. Krugman, you can’t get any better than the beating that he took from David Burge over at Iowahawk. You can see these here and here.

Friedman Friday – Part 2

Today is the second installment of Friedman Friday here at King of My Blog. Last week was the first episode of the influential Free To Choose series hosted by famed economist, Milton Friedman in 1980. That episode, entitled The Power of the Market, kicked off the series and showed us how the free market is the most effective and equitable way to prosperity.

“The problem in this world is to avoid concentration of power – we must have a dispersion of power.” – Milton Friedman

First Installment of Friedman Friday

A couple of years ago, I ran across the Free To Choose series that featured Milton Friedman, the famed Nobel-prize winning economist that espoused the free market and capitalism. Friedman was a real economist back in the day when winning the Nobel prize in economics really meant something (unlike the economist-turned-political hack Paul Krugman). With all of the economic quackery that is being practiced today, his voice is sorely missed.

It is with that idea in mind that I will be posting each of the Free To  Choose episodes (all 10) each Friday. Each episode features an introductory portion where Dr. Friedman discusses a certain concept and then a roundtable discussion with supporters and defenders of his ideas. The videos can be found on YouTube and on the FreeToChoose.tv website.  The Free To Choose series first debuted in 1980 on PBS (of all places) and became classics in conservative and libertarian intellectual circles. After watching an episode, you will know why.

“A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither. A society that puts freedom before equality will get a high degree of both.”
― Milton Friedman
